Washington
The weather in Eastern Washington started off cool and mild for Pea Harvest this year. That has slowed down the overall pack and led to challenges with mixed maturity in our fields. With that said, the team has done an excellent job responding. Our harvester and processing teams are performing at a very high level and are able to flex and sprint to grab fields as they hit their peak ripeness. Overall, we are on track for yields and our overall pack volume with an anticipated end to the harvest in the second week of July.
The Corn fields are developing well. Corn also started out slowly due to the cooler weather, but with warmer temps in the 80’s and 90’s the plants are maturing well and we are on target to start harvesting in the middle of July.
We plan to again process both Peppers and Carrots in Ellensburg. Both crops are planted and are progressing well.
Michigan
Our Green Bean processing is expected to start at the beginning of August. Organic green beans were planted in the third week of June and we expect to start processing in late August. Our conventional beans are getting a late start to planting due to unfavorable weather in Michigan. We expect to be processing Green Beans in Lake Odessa in September and possibly into October which is less than ideal due to the unpredictability of the weather.
As always, we cannot control the weather, but we can be flexible and agile to harvest and process where, when and at the speed we need to be successful.
